In March of 2026 we were alerted to the plight of an abandoned donkey in Winona, Texas. After working through the logistics of gaining permission to remove him from the property, we headed to load him up on April 6th. Some concerned neighbors had been looking after the donkey and feeding him carrots over the fence. As a result, he walked right up to us, and we clipped a lead rope to his halter and loaded him in the trailer easily. After getting him to the Pegasus ranch, we named him Pete. 

Pete is a healthy, friendly, standard donkey. Our veterinarian estimates his age to be 13 years old. We were able to vaccinate & deworm him and draw his Coggins without too much trouble. We worked with him for a few weeks to get him accustomed to fly spray and having his feet picked up for trimming. He tolerates trimming well, and with time, we think he will stand like a champ. Pete has a sweet, gentle, curious nature.

He currently shares space with our Paint gelding, Smokey. Upon introduction and since, Pete has been friendly and nonaggressive with Smokey. He’s an easy guy to get along with and enjoys the company of other equines. He’s going to make someone a great pet!
