Jim

Jim came to Pegasus in December 2022 after his owner went to prison and remaining family members didn’t know what to do with him. Apparently, Jim had been with his owner for many years, and she loved him dearly. We aren’t exactly sure how old Jim is, but his teeth and his arthritis indicate that he is in his late 20s or early 30s.

Jim is a bit cranky. Once you form a bond with him, you can tell that he loves you deep down. (Really, you can) He doesn’t like to be messed with much, but his favorite people can groom him and give him a little loving on his terms. Jim has old laminitic damage to his hooves. We struggle to keep him sound and he has recurrent abscesses. But, he’s sound more than he’s not, he eats well, and he is happy with his simple donkey life. Here at Pegasus, we love him hard, and we know that anyone who understands donkeys will see all his good qualities and respect his wisdom. He’s challenging with the vet and farrier, and so he needs an adopter with experience and skill and with kind patient professionals. We are proud to have offered sweet old Jim a soft landing. And if he stays with us forever, we are a-ok with that!
